Patton Avenue Pet Company: A Brand Customers Recognize, and Ads That Nearly Doubled Purchases
Independent pet supply retailer with three stores in Asheville, NC, and an online shop.
The challenge
Patton Avenue Pet Company is an independent pet retailer with three stores in Asheville, NC, and an online shop. It competes with national chains in every aisle. It had a clear personality but nothing written down. When we started in March 2021, owner Jenna Yarosh Wilson told us: “We do not have anything formal in terms of a guideline.” She described the brand as fun, colorful and joyful, and serious about animal health and nutrition. She also asked for “pet parent” language and nothing cutesy.
The business needed advertising that turned online attention into purchases, and creative that sounded like the stores instead of a chain.
The approach
Brand foundations first. We started by writing down the identity, tone and imagery the stores already had. Every ad, script and shoot since has been built from that.
Paid advertising with monthly accountability. Campaigns were reported every month against revenue, spend, purchases and return on ad spend, so we could see which decisions worked.
A library of commercials. We produced 30-, 15- and 6-second brand spots covering personal care, convenience, delivery and product expertise. Seasonal holiday and apparel spots followed in 2025, and new 30-second A/B versions in 2026. The 2025 scripts put local ownership, friendly service and living-wage jobs up front.
Changing creative when the numbers lag. In early 2024, Jenna noticed that the Bath + Bones grooming commercial was getting plenty of views while the service was still struggling. She asked for clearer location, price and service details. We re-cut the spot, and she approved the new version: “Perfect, thank you!”
Professional photography. We coordinated a commercial shoot with photographer Nathan Lopez in November 2022. Jenna’s response: “These are wonderful thank you!”
The results
Between July and August 2021, the monthly ad reports showed:
- Reported ad revenue up 175%
- Ad-driven purchases nearly doubled (up 98%)
- Return on ad spend up from 2.5:1 to 6.2:1
Ad spend stayed roughly the same.
The brand work also reached customers. In October 2026, Jenna said:
“A lot of people keep telling me they’re seeing our commercials, which makes me very happy.”
“Overall, things are going super well. We had our best September of all time. We had our best August of all time. And I think we had our best July of all time.”

“Thank you so much for just taking care of things from the beginning because it was not on my mind and I had no capacity and so I'm glad you just like handled stuff.”Jenna Yarosh Wilson, Owner, Patton Avenue Pet Company
